On June 26, 1948, married Betty Blettner. Three children followed -- two girls and a boy. One girl is now 52 and is principal of an elementary school in Cincinnati. The other girl (46) is a speech and hearing therapist in a school system in Louisville and is married to an FBI agent. My son (48) is an M D and is a certified child and adult psychiatrist; his wife is a psychology professor. They live in Cincinnati. My personal education is high school, plus a few university classes. I have four grandchildren.
When I was discharged, I enlisted in the Reserves. In 1949, I went on active duty for six months to work in recruiting offices. For that period, I was given rank of Master Sergeant.
I subsequently became involved in manufacturing quartz crystals for communications equipment and operated my own business -- Tedford Crystal Laboratories, Inc. The major portion of my production was for one customer, Motorola. A black and white copy of the front page of my sales literature is enclosed. Click here to see it. I sold that business in 1967 and then started another crystal business in 1968, R/T Labs, Inc. It was a much smaller business (as required by a legal document signed with the buyer of my former business) and did not serve Motorola. I sold that business in 1975 when I developed colon cancer and have been retired ever since. The colon cancer has not returned.
I am a radio amateur with an Extra Class license (call sign: W8AKW), a Mason and member of Syrian Shrine, and a lifetime member of IEEE.
My wife Betty passed away March 28, 1997. I presently live in a condo in Cincinnati for 7 months and in a condo in Naples, FL, for five months of the year.
